Russian SKS bolt question

So, I'm fairly new to the firearm mods thing. I'm very mechanically inclined.

I'm wanting to use removeable mags in my Russian sks and from my research, the easiest method for mag changes is to modify the bolt. I'm willing to do that, however I would like a backup bolt incase I accidently mess up my bolt.
I haven't been able to find spare Russian sks bolts anywhere, but I can find the Chinese type 56. I'm only want to use removeable mags because I installed a Kodiak Defense full scope rail which makes reloading tricky with factory mags.

Will the Chinese ones work without issue? And, after modifying the bolt, will there be issues with using a factory mag again?

And on a side note, I've seen a video of Jerry Miculek hold an sks upside down and just drop rounds loosely into the open mag! Certainly an odd way of reloading!

OP - perhaps a thought - find a substitute bolt - modify that one - if it works you are golden - versus modifying the original, and not getting it correct

You don't have to modify the bolt unless you want to put a magazine in with closed bolt - which you don't need since all SKS have the last round bolt open feature.

I've had some SKSs and the bolt mod is only needed to insert mags into a closed bolt. Rather than doing the mod I just reach up into the mag well and lock the bolt open with the 'hold-open' tab, then insert the mag into 'open bolt'. I use the Tapco mags at present, however they're 5/20s and with 'coming Lieb legislation' may be targeted on the next round of bans on semis. I'd suggest buying 5-round mags so you might get a few years b4 they're banned too. I bought a Ruger Ranch in x39 'for the future'.

PS - I started to answer at 12:15 but had to hang out my laundry. In the meantime e-one else answered. I did contribute the 'hold-open tab' tho, for the first mag . . .

Just grind the tabs off, if you’re remotely mechanically inclined you can’t mess it up.

It won’t change anything with the factory mag other than being able to release it with the bolt closed.
