My Russian SKS is now all dissassambled and I have decided to get the sksman spring firepin and recoil buffer.. Now I read here on the forum that I also need a elevation tool for thr front sight, do I need the tool that do both windage/elevation or only the tool that only does elevation ??

I have no experience at all with my SKS yet, so please enlighten me :)

If anyone can recommend me which sights to get (Tech Sights or Williams Firesight) , I thought about getting the williams front sight and the tech sights TS200 for the back.. any thoughts ?

Ah yes, do you guys put any oil anywhere on the SKS part after doing the big cosmoline cleanup ?

Thanks!

The spring is not necessary. It's only needed if you are absolutely paranoid of a slamfire. I have shot thousands of rounds through my SKS's and have only had one slamfire which resulted in 2 shots for one trigger pull. But yes a spring will practically prevent this. If you want to save your $$$ simply disassemble and clean your bolt and firing pin every case of corrosive ammo. Takes about 30 seconds to pound out with an auto-punch or hammer and punch and about the same time to clean it.

Recoil buffers are really only necessary if you intend to scope the rifle. It helps keep your scope zeroed (which in itself on an SKS is extremely difficult as only certain styles of mounts can make this happen more than others). The rifle was designed to have the crap slammed out of it from the factory. But again, its not a bad thing to have one.

Elevation tool is used to properly sight in your rifle. Again, before spending more money on your SKS, see how it shoots from the bench first.

Lots of people here recommend the Tech Sights.

Almost all the metal parts on the SKS "do not" need oiling except the bolt (don't oil the bolt face) and the sides of the carrier that slide along the receiver. I use lithium grease on the side of the carrier. You only need to oil the barrel if you intend to store the SKS for prolonged periods of time between shootings. (6 months or more)

Thanks for your reply :)

I already had the firing pin cleaned and everything else but I found it a bit stiff to open the action, since therre is no oil it doesnt help lol!

I'll oil the side of bolt/carrier and see how it goes .

i had the tech sights, too flimsy for a battle rifle, never had a slamfire after 2000 rounds, i pull apart the bolt and clean it every 2 outings,

Go to TRADEX a site sponsor. They have the multi sight tool.
it makes it so much easier to adjust your site. For what it is worth, it is another tool to add to your collection. I have one and I highly recommend it.
