hey everyone,

I'm considering adding to my rifle collection by purchasing an SKS. I got a call from the guy I normally purchase rifles from and he offered me a Russian SKS for $200. He told me it was in perfect condition. However, he also said it was a Arsenal refit. I tried googling this and didn't come up with much. Can someone educate me on what this exactly means and whether or not it's a good buy?

Thanks!

Most of them are referbs, with a few exceptions. If you are collecting you might want a closer examination, if you are looking for a shooter, then you won't be disappointed for 200 bucks. Between my shooting buddies and myself, we own over 20 SKSs of all makes and vintage and in many forms of condition. the ugly ones shoot just as good as the collectors prizes or perhaps better. They're indestructible and keep on shooting. If you're new at firing 7.6x39 russian, you won't get a better bang for your buck at todays market prices. This may change in the future, but thats the way it is now.

I think as far as the sks is concerned, for a shooter, i'd rather have a refurb than a totally matching one. Sure, it's not as collectable, maybe it's not worth an extra 50 bucks if i want to sell it? Big deal. I'd rather make sure that it was in 100% (98%?) working order with a good barrel, with all the worn out parts tossed in the bin.
