I have a new to me SKS with the spring on the trap door rusted away. I guess sixty years in a crate will do that.

Does anybody bother replacing these or just get a new trap door?

I think my recent purchase on the EE and your rifle were hanging out in the same crate.

My trap door spring was rusted and the spring in the opening for the cleaning kit was rusted away.

I had an extra stock that I had bought from Canadian Tire from a SKS that was in a bin by their Tapco stocked guns. The stock was $20 and I was able to use the springs/door.

Love those 55/56 K letter laminates in red.

I haven't noticed any variation in the trapdoor set ups of any sks I've handled. At our last gunshow I spent $20 for an old stock with the fixtures. Or buy another one as J suggests lol.

One of my SKS had the price sticker over the trap door and it was very badly rusted with the spring just crumbled rust. The rest of the
rifle is beautiful. I wonder if there was something done that made a few of these get exposed to water somehow? But only on the trap door.

Thanks to all the other replies for telling us how to fix the situation.

Do you need a new buttplate (for hardwood stocks) and/or buttplate screws? Speak now, or forever hold your peace, as the part is going in the mail in the AM.

Does anybody know where to get these doors with spring. I just bought a non-refurb and mine too is rusted away. Go figure!!

There are a couple variations in the trapdoors. The ones for the hardwood stocks are shaped different from the ones for the laminates. The top section, the one with the hole is broader and more rounded on the ones from the hardwood stocks and will not fit in the buttplates from the laminate stocks. It is easier to get one from the type of stock you have. There can also be some other dimensional variances too, but yours looks like it was from a hardwood stock. Just a heads up.

I gave my last one away. I'm sure there's somebody on here with spare parts they can donate! Come on guys, surely you can help a fellow Nutter out.

I'm in need of the same thing, the trap door and the spring inside to push the cleaning kit out. Can anyone please kindly help me out? Thanks.

Good Day

I am in same boat, my 55/56 K letter gun needs the hole butt plate assembly, about 90% of the butt plate is gone, thin as card stock.
I need the narrow butt plate as mine has a laminate stock.
Anyone no where to get this?

I know that they are not a sponser here, but skspartscanada!! I hope I am not in deep ca - ca for posting this. Just add the com to look them up.

This seems to be a common problem lately, I have two that I got recently that need to have the spring replaced and probably the trap door
as well because of being rusted out. The stocks seem fine, it is just the trap doors that seem to have been affected. Any one know what's up?

Good Day
Yes the butt plates are a lot different, the hardwood stock butt plate measure 1.5 inches at the widest point and the laminate stock butt plate measure 1 3/8 at the widest point.
I think you could re-shape the trap door anchor piece of the wider one to fit in the narrow butt plate.
Marstar has the wide butt plate assemblies and are in very nice shape.
Thanks Shawn Tim is hooking me up.
Take Care
