Just found out a someone I know has a Russian SKS he might be looking to part with. Its in Great condition, but neither of us know the value. I been checking the EE to see if I can find one for sale to get an estimated price but I don't ever see any Russian ones for sale. I am guessing it will be more than I would like to spend and I might end up selling it here for him. If I remember correctly it was stamped 1950 beside the star. Anyone have a fair estimated price for this rifle?

Cheers!

With no cracks in the wood, blueing in 80% or better, and an original Russian 10/5 mag I would expect it to fetch around 350 bucks. With cracked wood and a Chinese shorty 5 round mag I would see it going for 275 ish. If the barrel is counterbored that would also negatively affect the value.

X2. I own one and it is worth the money ( if it is all russian parts)

Excuse the ignorance but what is counterbored? I only have taken a quick peek at it, but the stock looked great and is dark in color. What I found kewl is that the metal seemed to be all black unlike the Norinco I had. Would a Russian rifle have a chromed barrel like the Chinese ones?? I did not look at the barrel, but he told me he never fired corrosive ammo with it, and that it shoots great.

If it's a russian it will have a chrome bore, counter bored means that at the muzzle it is drilled back a bit to remove worn rifleing, ussually caused by careless cleaning. It will be a section that is slightly larger in diameterwith no rifleing for perhaps half an inch or so.
