Russian SVD rifle

I am looking to purchase a 1979 svd, was wondering if anyone could tell me what year is best to buy, what country of origin is best, any lemon reports on any of the models? Price range of this year? Anything to note on the rifle before purchasing?

But if you are not in Canada and are allowed to own one (You lucky bastard ) get the Russian or the Chinise (only if you cant find a Russian one) I heard that the Romanian SVD are crap. The Chinise guns are better the the Romanian guns but can't beat the Russian guns. Have a look at this site (dragunov.net) it has some good info on these rifles and should help a bit.

get an east german svd...best one made! the metal finish is pre-1945 class. russian parts....assembled in east germany.

if it has anything in common with a SVD or AK it will be prohibited as it will be deemed a "variant"

I thank all that replyed to my post,And yes I live in canada and yes I am allowed to own a Dragunov,I made a offer but wasent accepted,will wait a few more weeks and make another..shawn
