Looking to see if there is any significant difference between Russian and PRC 7.62x39 I like the look of Russian rounds better and the crate is nicer for storing things in, but currently I can get the Chinese $60 cheaper for 100 rounds more. Is the Chinese as good as the Russian. Side note i can also get 1320 Romanian for $350, however I have heard Romanian is junk, is this true?

I have had the Romanian stuff but for me the Chinese ammo is the most accurate surplus I have tried to date
Maybe it’s just what my rifles like but I can get a 2-2.5” group at 100m with my 7.62 AaR with 10x scope which I think is amazing for surplus. The Czech stuff on stripper clips was 4” at best with the same rifle

No worries. I also know SKS shooting eastern bloc milsurp ammo aren’t super accurate as it is.

I am leaning towards Russian but don’t know if the price difference is worth it.

It kind of doesn't matter if it's surplus ammo in spam cans. I've used over 100K of Chinese x39 over the last few years. Some copper wash, some lacquer. It goes bang, it works fine. I personally wouldn't pay $60 more for 100 rounds less. I would however pay $60 more for non corrosive over corrosive.

I do miss the Ukrainian x39 with the grey lacquer that Canada Ammo used to sell. It was awesome, non corrosive and cheap. Can Am's re manufactured ammo works good too.

I've had fairly widely varying accuracy results with surplus from Russia, Romania, Czech, or Chinese, over the years.

It was all made to a decent spec, as far as I can tell. I think it depends more on how it was stored over the decades than anything else. Even sealed in spam cans, if it was stored someplace where the temperature spiked and dropped over the years, it can really degrade the powder. Most of the surplus x39 I've shot has been 40+ years old, so the storage conditions over that time are going to have a bigger effect than country of origin.

On the plus side, it has always gone *bang* reliably, even if the accuracy has varied a lot. But even the worst of it shot under 5" with an SKS (the best under 2"), so if you just want to plink and shoot gongs with it, it'll pretty much all do the trick.

My 858 has been adequate with anything, with one proviso.....

It DOES NOT LIKE lacquered ammunition and I get some really nasty failures to extract. I only feed it copper washed surplus now and it operates without any issues.....

The Chinese shoots hot and straight. Similar to my Russian stuff. Czech ...not so much but they were cheaper back then.

Chinese for me so far has gone bang each time unlike Czech ammo on stripper clips in plastic wrap 10 round packs. 1 in about 100 FTF with clear firing pin imprint. Was cheap and came on the stripper clips which I needed for the Chinese ammunition lol!

A store local to me has 1320 Romanian on sale for $350 of this stuff is okay might be my go to. Same store has Russian but it’s $400 for 1400
