Hi Guys,

Im probably opening a can of worms on this one. Im thinking of buying an SKS, but I have noticed that there are two types available comercially. The Chinese made ones from places like marstar and Russian made ones from Frontier taxidermy. Im curious to know if there is any reason to pay more for the Russian made ones? Quality issues/Nostalgia/Bragging rights etc.

Any info would be a help.

Thanks
Pipe.

marstar hasnt got a chinese SKS $139 in stock for over 2 years.

best price for a new chinese on EE is $200 shipped or a russian shooters grade for $242 shipped, for $42 more, its worth it , go get some.

What about throwing the Yugo ones into the discussion? Do you care if the bore is chromed?

SIR has Chinese SKS Type 56 for $165 ...

SIR dont update their site either, they sold out months ago.

for plinking with SKS i prefer chrome but with CZ858 i prefer non-chrome for better accuratecy , i use a scope with it.

The 56's , after doing some reading - supposedly have stamped recievers as opposed to the traditional milled receivers of the Russian's?

Are the Chinese D and M variants available in Canada?

chinese experimented with stamped receiver, limited amount was produced , they are extremely rare so its a collector item.

otherwise all SKS has milled receiver, perhaps you meant stamped trigger group?

plenty of SKS-D in canada.

But whenever I call Marstar they assure me that the Nork SKS's and Yugo's will be in stock in a month or so! :) That month has been very very very very long.....

they said the same thing with M14s and lord and behold they came thru with no price increase , we can only hope they do the same with the new chinese sks at $139 , i did noticed about 6 mo ago they removed the yugo m66/59 $329 .

I own a Chinese SKS[older one] and find it to be, an excellent shooter, for the simple battle rifle, it is.There are websites, that have tested all three together,[Yugo, chinese,Russian], and found them very similar, in shooting characteristics. There have been some quality issues, on the Chinese rifles ,with bad magazine followers, and rough feeding ramps, but these, were, most likely, isolated cases, because of all the diverse places, and factories in China, where they were produced.[Over 20 factories producing them]The pinned barrel on the later Chinese SKS's, were also a concern, but discovered to be completely unbased on fact, as there is no difference, in accuracy, between pinned, and threaded barrels. My rifle surprised me with how well it shot.I was expecting, a total piece of junk, for the $89 dollars, I payed for it in the 80's.I have a Russian SKS on the way from "Frontier," and expect it to be a straight shooter as well.

Hopefully! I can always use more cheap ass SKS's.
