Russian VS Chinese SKS

Not really unless you want to have one from a different county of origin... and or want to collect.
The Chinese feels cheaper in most areas that don't effect its performance. Not as solid feel!

Type 56 comes standard with chrome lined bore , most Russians don't , although I believe when they refurbished or some of the last ones made , that the Russians chromed the bores .
And the chi com spike bayonet is stronger then the ruskie blade one .

Russians chrome lined theirs starting in 51, so only the two prior years wouldn't be chrome lined.

Russian SKS is better made, fit and finish is better, stocks are hardwood or laminate which is superior to chu soft garbage.

Chinese will be worth more now because of scarcity and price but that may change too either one is good. Chinese type 56 are all brand new manufacture not arsenal reburbs

Come on guys , and I know we already all know this ,the early Chi com SKS's were made on the same machines that the Russian ones were , when the Russians were done with them in 56 , they shipped the tooling , spare parts , and techs support to china , this was still at the time of Sino-Soviet harmony , so , some of the early type 56 are almost Russian , and aside from the Chu wood , are every bit as good , well , the ones before , say the mid 60's 70's , just spitballing here about the time line .

I find the Chinese more accurate.Mind you I have one #26 with blade bayonet made on early Russian tooling .......screwed in barrel.

I prefer the Chinese over the Russian as a shooter.

The mid-production pattern with short barrel lug, milled trigger group, spike bayo, slim fore stock (heavier stock than the later mid-production variants with the stamped trigger group) and side mounted rear sling swivel fits me the best.

I personally like the Russians the best. A real nice Russian with great fit and barrel is awesome. Just my opinion. I’ve owned many and a lot of makers/countries and the best have always been Russian for me. YMMV.

I like them both. The russians are nicer, but some of the chincom ones i have shot are more accurate. There are a few chincoms i have seen that are almost as nice as the russians.
For collecting get a russian
for shooting try a chincom.

...for the record, my "super grade" all-matching mild refurb's and my all-matching non-refurbished as-issued's shoot better than any other SKS I've shot, and I've shot a few!
The Chinese can also be interesting, but are inferior in finished and fit. When buying an SKS, always check bore condition and stock to metal fitment. If all is well, it will likely be a shooter.

This thread has caused me to break down and order a Chinese SKS from SFRC's Black Friday sale to add to my collection. At least my Type 81 won't be as intimidated by all the Russians next to it now lol :p

All the chinese sks around now are refurbs! But price is coming down to $200-$239.so not as bad as they were About 10 months ago when they first turned up!

I've yet to see an as issued military chinese sks that wasn't very accurate. The only Russian Izhevsk (54 mild refurb) I've shot was just as accurate. But I've seen a few Russian Tula's that weren't as impressive. So, for a safe bet shooter the chinese wins in my books. Your mileage may vary.

I have Russians I like the big old knife at the end over the pike on the Chinese version. I also like how the knife is dull so I don't cut my fingers pretending to be a bad ads shooting with it deployed at the range.
