Thanks to reading some advice here I finally had the courage to tackle some surface rust on a much loved gun. A Browning B-80 given to me when I was 14. Awesome goose gun. In fact it's long and heavy enough you can club them out of the sky.
Anyway, some misuse and a few years of neglect resulted in some very small rust spots. Like pepper on the receiver. Barrel untouched.
I located a spot just ahead of the loading gate where I could feel a few pimples. This I gave a couple careful swipes with 0000 steel wool and a tiny bit of oil. It didn't appear to mar the factory hot bluing and it removed the rust to a point where I couldn't feel it. If you look very carefully you can still see where it was. With this test passed, I gently attacked the rest of the receiver. Gentle passes, a little oil and moving parallel to the bore. Although this worked, I would not want to have to do it a second time.
A little wipe of perfume Hopes No. 9 and then a wipe with a clean oiled cloth and back to the Vault it went. I'll take it out on Thursday to shoot again, she needs some love.
