That is old pitting. It was like that before it was sold off surplus. Just clean off the scabbing. Not much you can do about the pitting. If the bore is OK, it will be a decent shooter.
What do ho-hum SKS rifles sell for these days? I don't know that $260 in trade value is too far off; depends on what you traded.
Yup...rifle has some old pitting from poor storage, and I am
quite happy to get it back. She shoots just fine btw and is sound otherwise...I'll clean her up a bit better and shoot her...its a "surplus" rifle...jeebus yas need to calm the hell down !!..really...
Actually there was no unhappy exchange at all,..realistically I should have looked closer at the rifle when I took it apart to ship, and I'll wear that np...it wasnt intentional.I am quite happy to get the rifle back...

Recently received an sks from a fellow member valued at $260 in a trade. I asked about use and he said he only fired 30 rounds of non corrosive ammunition through it and it functioned well. I was picturing a good condition refurb, having seen a few in the past this one looks like it’s been neglected since it left cosmoline land. Please let me know what you think it’s value is. The sad thing is that he even removed the barrel from the stock so there’s no way he was unaware of this rust. Anyways.. Here’s the pictures.
Thanks!

Best part is seller 'only fired 30 rds of non corrosive ammo through it.'
Lol.
Some folks have only small amounts of money and work low paid, menial jobs.Parts are cheap and the bore is chrome lined so it will shoot fine with some rust. the buyer can buy a can of BBQ paint, some steel wool, and let it look like new again. That old rusty hulk might be a good shooter, and we shouldn't judge a cheap book by it's cover.............SKS's are not heirloom quality but we like them like that. The best examples still look like crap, but we sing Russian songs, and then shoot them until they smoke.I would NEVER buy a rusty SKS. After you spend $200 on ammo, then you realize you were stupid. Now you have rusty SKS minus $460. If you add those $200 toward purchase a better SKS, you could have matching ,not refurb, original bluing SKS in nice condition.
