Hi: I have a RWS 34 with a $10.00 3/4" scope and old canadian tire .177 bulldog pellets. Use it for just keeping crows off the garbage but I would like to set it up right now since I have to hit them in the head to kill right now.
Body shots get the big smack but they fly away.
So what scope mount and scope should I buy for it and what pellets work best for killing crows.
Want to spend maybe under $200.00 if that is possible
Thanks in advance for the feedback.

I'll take a try at this,, Mount,,,,a one piece mount is a must, look to D&L or Specialty Shooting Sports. Scope, tons of choices, again see above sites, some scopes are adjustable so you can zoom in on your target some are fixed, should be air gun rated, expect to spend at least $100.00 on a basic scope IMHO. Lastly pellets,,,, a pointed pellet is what you want to get thru those nasty crow feathers, CZ Boxers come to mind, nice and heavy, maybe 11grains(177 cal) or something similar,,, hope that helps.

Helps big time. Thanks so much for the feedback. Joe

Airgun-rated scopes are a must, I used a "Rex" brand on my Diana when I had it (think they were made by the company that's now called Barska) and it was great. Still use it, but it's now on my QB79. Anyhow, D&L in BC should be able to hook you up, here is a link to their scope page;

My rig, in .22 cal....packs a whallop! :)

Good luck!

I was shooting my 34 yesterday and it got me to thinking, I should mention this, and if you already know then disregard, ,,,the 34 has a pretty violent shot cycle, tends to loosen screws on all parts, so its a good idea to remove and degrease all the stock screws and mount screws and then put a drop of blue lock tight on them, if you don't you may find that your shooting very well with your scoped rifle and then everything is out of wack, and you can't figure out why, well its because some screws have backed off and your POA is all messed up, hope this helps.

RWS and Diana guns routinely come from the factory with bent mainsprings and damaged piston seals. My son's 34 /.22 would shake the stock screws loose in less than a dozen shots.I tore it down and polished the internal surfaces of the compression tube + polished the cocking slot.Ordered a new Macarri kit/mainspring and seal. It's like a new gun.BTW get the UTG $20 mt from D+L for 1" scopes.A straight 4or 6X Leapers scope is fine and if your gun is full powered crows should be falling not flying away with body shots?I tuned a CZ630 to about 625fps and they just fold up...........Macarri ships to Canada.........Harold

Take all the advice given and you will be happy but personaly i use a busnell banner
4-12x40 with A/O which retails for around $125.

I prefer bushnell since they have a lifetime warranty if you have a problem mail it to toronto and they send you a new one.

With the unique the recoil that airguns have its nice to have easy service not that
i have broken one though. Even better Get a bushnell legend they are rated for airguns too.

Pellets i found more or less anything by RWS worked great. The dianas are a little different in that they have choked barrels which reduces pellet sensitivity a lot.

Since springs were mentioned If i were you i would by a vortek replacement spring, they
have a dual dampening system and come with a new seal. I had one of these in a diana 350 and it was a truly superior product.

I've been using a Bushnell Banner 4-12x40 airgun scope on my HW97. It's about $100. The scope has stood up just fine. In fact, I was just doing some bench sighting in today and needed to move POI 0.5 inches at 10 yards. 20 clicks and it was perfect on the first shot. No complaints at all.

I find the Leapers brand of scopes have a good selection and are made for the two-way recoil springers have. My M34 uses an RWS one piece mount($40.00) and a 3-9x40 scope.($87.00) If you do alot of small game hunting, a 3-9x32 should be plenty.
For pellets, the varieties I tried are (.22 cal.); Beeman FTS, JSB Exact Jumbo, RWS Superdome and Crosman Premier HP. The pellets my gun prefers are the Crosman and Superdomes. Each gun will have its own preference so it's best to try out a few until you find the ammo which gives you the best shot-group consistency.
Good Luck and have fun.

I shoot a model 48 .177 cal. Love the gun. I can honestly say that I have shot sub 1" groups at 50 meters with the gun with H&N barracuda match pellets and they are 11.65 grains. That being said, they don't kill worth ####. The RWS super mags @ 9.8 grains kill a lot better and are accurate as well. As for crows? I don't know what the best pellet in .177 cal would be but I bet that a .22 cal pellet would be much better. My friend has the same gun as me but in .22 cal and it has twice the killing power but mine is more accurate at a distance. The crossman premier ultar mags in 177 cal are 10.5 grains and they kill a little better as they have more of a dome than the H&N and are still very accurate. I'd definately give the RWS flat head super mags a try for crows.

Also, I am on my second bushnell banner 4-12x50 AO. The first ones crosshairs split after a couple of years. High powered springers are definatley high maintenance guns. Don't overshoot the gun. Let it cool down. Its the spring that warms up and makes your groups spread. Keep the spring greased up properly and don't clean the barrel often. Take a look at canadianairgunforum. they have good info there for you. A maccari kit will make your gun a smooth shooter.
