Hey CGN, a site sponsor is having a sale and have S&B LP Primers for $34.99 for 1000. I've only used CCI so far, are these primers reliable in your experience? Relatively new to reloading and want to stock up on supplies.

Thanks in advance.

I've used many thousands of them without any issues in various .44 mag loads. I would use thousands more if I could find them locally since freight charges cancel the price advantage.

I use S&B in my .223; 9mm and .45. They work just fine, haven't had a ftf in many thousands of rounds. They seat easily and they are cheaper as you say by between $5-$7 per thousand.

Another positive vote for the S&B primers here, although I haven't used the Large Pistol primers personally I have used quite a few other S&B primers and they work just fine for me. I would not hesitate to try them.

Been using S&B primers for a number of years - mostly handgun ammo, although some rifle (30-06 & 45/70). There is likely some difference between S&B, CCI, Federal and Winchester - but I haven't been able to pick up on it.

I have used about 30,000 of them. No problems.

Stock up. There are only 5,000 in a case.

I bought them when they were only $18/1000. Only bought 10,000. That was a mistake.

I bought 5000 SP from Tenda when they last got them in. I’ve previously used several thousand with few problems. They do sometimes fail on first strike in my P226. I’d probably go with CCI if my life was on the line but for anything else they’re fine.

S&B cases are known to have tight primer pockets, especially the large pistol calibres. I think if you had an issue it was probably with the cases rather than the primers.

Agreed, I tossed all my S&B cases and bought Starline. I think S&B crimp their primers in the cases too and thats why there are a pain to get in and out.
