Ok now here's the thing; I bought myself a 870 tactical that came from the factory with an 18.5" barrel+muzzle break and +2 extension(6 shot down the tube). Now lets say if I tried to push the follower even further (i.e. miscounting and actually trying to put 7 in) the follower would get jammed at the bottom.

I bought myself a S&J no jam follower and it actually got even worse! sometimes I can't even put a 6th one in. Anyone can help?

It could be the gun not the follower, remington has this issue depending on QC of the mag tube lenght.
Try this
Take off the mag extension
place the mag follower and spring in the 1st part of the magazine.
place the mag tube nut onto the mag tube untill tight.
Place extension over the spring andtighten to the mag tube nut untill tight.
place finger on follower and push a few time, you should feel the follower and spring sping few time.
Now the spring and follower is installed the right way.

I have the same problem with my new orange follower. I had a thought that the sharp cuts on the sides of the follower might be the cause of the follower sticking on the joint between the original mag tube and the new extension, so I filed the edges off. I was really proud of the job I did, but it didn't help at all!

Guess my gun just doesn't like that style of follower design. Original follower seems to work fine, so I'm going to have to stick with it.
