I have a sporterized M1917 by Remington in 30-06.
I just installed the Insta-Mount (Weaver) scope mount that I ordered from Brownell's. The instructions did not come with torque specs. Has anybody else installed this mount, and if so, what torque did you use?

I found this... Apparently they don't want to spell out the torque value.

Install the Insta-Mount base, using the two allen type cap screws included.
Tighten these 2 screws alternately, and quite tightly

...which means it's up to you, using your experience and "feel" to get it just right, without Hippo Handing or stripping it.
Blue Loctite is always a good idea.

Yep...people were more self reliant in the past.

BTW, regarding S&K on Lee Enfield No 4...they're just too short for modern optics.

You need a Pic Rail almost twice as long as the out of date length of the S&K to mount a modern scope. There are better choices out there.

The S&K is about long enough for a 2X Bushnell Banner, that's pretty much about it.

I have an S&K on a No5 that has worked out quite well.
The rifle was purchased with the mount already on and a Weaver scope .
I put a 3x8 Ruko scope on it and there's been at least a hundred rounds fired without any loss of zero.
There are better no smith mounts out there , but , I'm very content with this mount...maybe I just got lucky ?

They're a very good mount. But the distance between the 2 rings isn't very long. Thus we usually see smaller scopes on them. BTDT.

For a big, modern scope, a longer rail is nice.

I've tried every mount several times, except for the English ones, which are a tad pricey.

For example, one of these does give a lot more rail length and an in spec Picatinny rail. (B Square was the wrong width and the rings I had wouldn't tighten up on it)

I see on their site now, they even have a specific mount for Long Branch rifles.
