Hello, just wondering if anyone knows if the woodcock population in Southern Ontario (Chatham-Kent are to be exact) is on the upswing. In about seven years of hiking around this area, I"ve come across about five of them and always during the migration period. This past monday I was scouting out a property that I'm hunting this year for deer and came across a small skull of a young woodcock then about an hour later in another part of the bush I flushed a very large (for a woodcock) one out. I"ve never seen a woodcock in this area in the middle of summer. Is this a flook or is the population actually coming back a bit?
