i recently aquired a S&W 29-1 44 magnum
6.5 inch barrel.blued, with the Cokes grips.
i am trying to find a value on it here in Canada.
from my research, there at less than 35 documented one in the US,
i dont remember but one for sale on here a few years ago,
US prices seem to be in the 5000 range, any idea what it would be in Canada.
i bought it to use as a shooter, since my other 2 29-2's are to nice,
but now i'm rethinking using the dash 1 to much,
any ideas,

Condition is everything and the description is short on detail, but regardless these should fetch a premium given the rarity. I think the reality is you will never get close to US market value for these in Canada. if you want to maximize value, export. Don't think i'd be using a -1 (or no dash for that matter) as a shooter given how rare they are. Lots of user 29-2s (or later models) out there for that.

i have two 8 3/8" dash2's ,one nickel and one blue, but they are to nice to use a lot,i guess i'll send this one to the US,
i know a dash 1 sold on here for $5000.00 on here 2 years ago, same nice shape as mine,do you think that that's the norm,or just a fluke, there is literaly not much information out there about the dash 1's.

Only absolutely mint condition will get best price. Most M29 I have seen here are grossly over priced as per cond...the pre # were actually not as well made as the -2's but they are collectable. US prices range in the $2500-$3,000 range in mint cond. in original box/tools/paperwork. I personally would never pay $5k here for any Smith. So its whatever you can get but $2500-3000 CA would be average if mint. I have owned all of then and while the original Dirty Harry's are cool 71-76' The fact is the latest model M29-10 is the best made and most accurate. The M29-2's were pretty good but hit and miss, the 3's were absolutely worst models to avoid. The next series from 5 up to 9 were a combination of years with poor fit, cheap bluing and cheap grips depending on year. The 1957-67 M29's were also hit or miss and had weaker frames than the next gen M29-2, so basically an expensive safe queen and not a shooter.

If I had to name my favorite handgun, it would be the S&W model 29. Over the years I've had about seven, 4", 6 1/2" and the 8 3/8". I still presently have two. My present 'shooter' is a 4" 29-2. And, to dress it up a little, at a local gun show a few years back, I picked up a set of S&W factory ivory grips. I 'believe' originally they came on a 5" nickel plated model 27. The other I presently have is a 4" model 29-3, an Elmer Keith cased commemorative. Had the good fortune to meet and visit with him a couple of times in the early 70's, the 1st at his home in Salmon Idaho. The 2nd meet was at a gun show a few years later in Kalispel Montana. My avatar is a photo I took of him posing beside my truck as I was preparing to leave for home after the first visit. Meeting and spending the day chatting with him I consider to be the highlight of my years shooting and hunting:).

one good thing the Dash 1 has going for it,is,it will just keep appreciating in value,,the Dash-10 never will,at least not in our lifetime, and will probably never be collectible,
