Well this is my first post so lets see if I get this right. I just acquired this revolver and want to remove the original grips and put the rubber one that I also got with the revolver back on it, but can't seem to get the wooden one off any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

B

It should just have the one screw through the grips. Remove it and then you may have to gently twist or pry the grip halves apart.

What model S&W? Factory grips?

Once the screw is removed, hold the gun around the frame and cylinder and tap one grip panel with the plastic handle of your screw driver. That should be enough to make the opposite panel fall away, then press off the remaining panel from the opposite side.

Like Stevo said...gently twist then and they become loose.
They always stuck from gummed up gun oil etc...
Do not try to insert any scewdriver or knife blades to pry them, this could damage the grips as well as the finish...

I found that with the real nice Hogue grips on my 686 ,I didn't like the feel of the recoil (grips too narrow), so I replaced them with wide wooden factory target grips. A real comfortable shooting gun now.
