Does anyone know why the S&W 41 22LR 7" and 5.5" target pistols are so rare? Apparently they are both still being made but you can't beg borrow or buy one, even a used one. Incidentally has anyone seen a new one or a good used one up for sale?

Lever Arms had a couple last week.. and there are a couple of used ones around if youre willing to pay for them..

You seldom see them for sale because, probably for the same reasons you don't see many high quality 22's for sale.

- Their owners like their guns
- They don't sell them (if they're not using them) because they know buying another one will be expensive...

Something could also be said about the volumes been sold. I'll bet that for every 41 sold, dealers will move 10 Rugers or Brownings

They are HEAVY pistols. I prefer my S & W model 622 (owned both). At 46 oz loaded, they aren't light. I found one hand hold impossible to keep a steady sight picture. My pistol is half the weight, and one hand hold is ten times steadier.

When I decided to purchase mine, I found two new ones the first day. I just had to look around a bit. There are several used ones listed in the EE.

I have the 5.5" model, and I have no issues shooting it one handed.

Done; I'm from the Toronto area and thanks to all who took the time to offer their opinions. I shoot with a club 41 (5.5") and I don't find it heavy; but the 7" is a few ounces heavier and that may tip the balance. I weigh 300 lbs and it's a shame to let that much traction go to waste with a light barreled gun!
