S&w .500

I have a 500 and to say the least, with 'full house' loads, they are a handful. ;) I have loaded & 'tried' a number of cast & jacketed bullets from 350gr - 440gr. To help tame the recoil I've modified a set of Herrett's Jordan Trooper stocks I had for a S&W model 29. At least now, it is bareable. I picked up some Hornady 500gr jacketed bullets to try next & with info I've received from Hornady, you can push them out @ 1350 f/sec. They might hurt a little, at both ends. I'm looking into the possibility of taking it to Alaska for Moose about 2008.:)

Nothing against the 460 & eventually, I will get one. IF IF I want to shoot a, .45LC, Thats what I'll shoot! I also 'like' the 44 Mag but I didn't get one so I could also shoot, 44 Special.

I hear you. Thet's why I got a 500. The 460 is cool. Probably cheaper to shoot, flatter trajectory, a lot more versatile, and really more useful overall.

But it's not a 500.

mine's bigger. 'nuff said.

There is a 460 XR listed for sale on Ellwood Epps. I checked the Smith&Wesson site and they don't have an XR. Is there such a beast or did Ellwoods probably mean 460 XVR?

D-eagle 50AE vs S&W 500. In the words of Peter Griffon: "Gimme the biggest freakin gun ya got"
