Is there a link, or could someone briefly describe how to get a look into the trigger area of a 586. Mine has 3 screws on the plate that covers the trigger, is there any trick to getting it off or should that just lift off when the screws are out. Is there any springs ect. that will try to come out with it?

Thanx,

Once you get the 3 screws out do not try to pry the sideplate off, you should already have the grips off so with the side plate facing up tap on the grip frame with a soft faced hammer or the handle of a regular hammer and the side plate will pop up and you can remove it. There are not any springs or anything that will come out with it but there is one part that has to be in the right place when you put it back together and make sure that the screws go back into the same holes they came out of, especially the one closest to the trigger guard.

Actually the hammer block will fall out. If you don't have it in the right position during assemby, you could damage it and the sideplate.

RePete.

That is the piece that I mentioned that has to be in the right place during reassembly, I just didn't know the name of it and if you turn the gun over with the side plate off it will fall out as RePete said.

It will fly out just rapping the frame to loosen the sideplate, then it's where the hell does this go?

I always keep my hand over the sideplate so that it doesn't go flying off onto the floor and it tends to keep the hammer block in place as well.

RT, If you plan to tinker with your revolver a good book to have is the S&W revolver book by Jerry Kuhnhausen, it is frequently for sale on eBay and you can easily find it on the web with a search of his name.
