When i try to reduce the trigger pull weight for my 586, the lighter i set the pull the more misfires (slight dent on primer face but no bang) i end up with. The problem is i have to pretty much set it at 12lbs to have no misfires. This is constant for all ammo brands.

Any suggestions?

Do you reload? if so, try federal primers. they are pretty much the softest, and about the only thing that works with extra slick action jobs. CCI is tha hardest, and just dosent work in that situation.

From the legal department: Just be careful that all modifications you are doing to the trigger system are safe, preferably by a knowledgeable, experienced gunsmith.

I have a custom S&W revolver with a great action job, and I use federal primers. I love it, and so does everybody who tries it. It's a very rewarding modification to have on a revolver - Enjoy!

Reducing the mainspring tension is not the way to do a proper trigger job and only adresses one of several areas that needs to be worked on,too much reduced mainspring will result in light primer strikes. I would suggest sending it to a good pistolsmith for proper tuning...the $$ will be well worth it.

Cheers

I would bet that you are backing off the mainspring screw too.

If you use a reduced power mainspring, you will need to use Federal primers. Also you will need to use a reduced power rebound spring or cut coils.

Backing off the mainspring screw helps a little bit for signal action trigger pull. I know I have to change some more springs. Can you tell me what kind of springs I have to get. Thanks.

The mainspring screw is NOT designed to be backed off, but left tight to the frame. It will loosen further and create a misfire condition.

And NO, Loctite isn't an option either.

Get a gunsmith who know's revolvers to smooth your DA trigger, there is no substitute for a pro trigger job. If that's not an option, put 3000 rounds through it and it'll smooth out and you'll not notice the weight.

Anyone can recommend a good gunsmith for revolvers in Vancouver B.C. ? I would like to have a trigger job done for my S&W revolvers. Thanks.
