S & W 629 Laser Sight?

Two completely different items. A laser projects a beam downrange. A red dot superimposes itself over the target. You don't need either. Learn how to use your sights and then consider a red dot later. Lasers are useful if you're a SWAT officer trying to make someone "get polite."

Crimson Trace company make an excellent Laser Sight that is a part of the grip, https://www.crimsontrace.com/ , if you wish to use a Laser Sight I think it is the better system over the others that you attach to the gun.
The Laser Sight simplifies aiming, it can be useful for training , poor light , compromised shooting positions, poor eyesight and are just a lot of fun to use. They are not much use for competition because they are usually not allowed .
As for double action shooting get someone who knows what they are doing to show you ( maybe a good PPC shooter) and then practise, as said earlier dry firing is great practise. The laser sight can be useful in that it clearly shoes the movement of the gun.

You will lose the laser point of impact dot in natural light (outdoors) any further than about 20 yards unless you plan to shoot before dawn, after dusk or at night. I speak from experience. 629-3, .44 mag, 6 ".
