Hi - looking at adding a revolver to the collection, I've seen this 686 with unfluted cylinder and 7" barrel, It says its a Talo exclusive (whatever that means), no idea how many were produced though?

What's the reason for the unfluted cylinder, is it purely cosmetic or does it serve a purpose, any dis/advantage with the 7" barrel over a 4.2 or 6?

Is there anything I should look out for with regards to problems?

Would this configuration be considered desirable should I wish to sell at some point?

Bear in mind it'll only be used down the range.

Thanks in advance.

They were/are a special run of the 686,629 and other models, basically only thing that is different is the unfluted cylinder, grips, unusual barrel length and there are no MIM parts.

An unfluted cylinder is pure esthetics and it's heavier.

You don't see too many of them in Canada, as for whether they are desirable or not that's up to you. I personally have had my eye on the very model you listed, hopefully we are not looking at the same gun at the same gun shop:kickInTheNuts:

Talo is a small group of gun distributors in the USA that spec guns a certain way with special features and do a group buy from the manufacturer. They then distribute the guns thru their selected dealers. That's a nice one by the way, and its hard to go wrong with a S&W.

Graydog - very nice, have you been happy with it?

It works extremely well and the fact that it is a seven shot it is kinda neat as well. So to answer your question yes I like it. There is no such thing as a bad S&W revolver some are just nicer then others.
