I have the opportunity to pick up a S&W 745. Just wondering, what is the take on them by those of you with experience with this Smith? Any comments, pro and/or con? How do they compare say to the variety of 1911's out there and what would be a fair price for one in 95% condition and with two spare mags?

I liked mine, should never have sold it. It's a nicely built, good looking (I say) reliable pistol with a decent trigger but it's not a 1911. If you WANT a 745 buy without hesitation but if you WANT a 1911 get one.

I had a 645 (level below the 745) and it was a kick ass pistol. Liked it way more than a 1911, but I don't really care for 1911's - to tell you the truth. I did sell it as I liked my Sig 220 and HK45 better. Definitely a beautiful and large pistol...

Unsure about pricing, as these aren't that readily available.

I had one and kick myself for ever selling it. It is a sweet pistol and has a nice clean sight picture with the Novak sights. I used mine for IPSC and bowling pins. If you have the chance to buy one, do it. Otherwise, let me know where it is and I'll buy it.

I know what you mean. I have a few in 45ACP including a custom 1911.

However, I was impressed with what I saw in the 745. :redface:I might go for it, the rationale being, while you can have too few 45's,;) you can never have too many:p.
