S&w 745

745 is a single action version of the 645.

The 645 was an early S&W .45 cal duty pistol whose biggest claim to fame is that Don Johnson carried one on Miami Vice.

They are old, they are big and it's a pain to get holsters for them.

Mine just sits around collecting dust for the most part.

I've got a couple 745's and a 645. They are very reliable and extremely accurate. The only drawback is the slide mounted safety, which takes some getting used to.

Remember these from the late 80s.
Weren't the 745s designed specifically for IPSC? Or was there a limited edition IPSC model? They had Novak sights, single action triggers and were two toned?
They were big guns and I thought, strangely ###y, in a Queen Latifa kinda way!

Yep, the 745's were IPSC guns. There was a 10th anniversary model with the IPSC logo engraved on the slide. Mine has a bo-mar rear site and a bar sto comped barrel, with a bigger safety and mag well. I need to shoot it more.

IIRC, S&W made the 745 as a rival to the 1911 for competition, while the 645 was agressively marketed towards law enforcement who thought that 9mm crunchentickers were made for women and Europeans.

I really like my 745
It will feed empty casing from the mag...dead reliable with any ammo
fully adjustable trigger.... stainless frame and blue steel slide...
safety on the slide is a bit awkward but other than that awesome
