S & W is closing the plant of ThompsonéCenter in Rochester NH. It is moving everything EXCEPT the forging to their Springfield MA, plant. They have a forging operation there. I have visited Thompson many times of the years. They made thier own forgings for receivers including my TC Contender. It was a FREE replacement for one that I brought to them that would open upon firing. Eventhough I bought it used, they gave me a brand new frame with my choice of serial number. They made all their own barrels which except for the 44, were all hammer barrelled. The 44 was drilled and button formed.
They tested every barrel for accuracy! It was always a class act. I am not sure that a move to Springfield is a good idea, but it is probably a comptroller's move.
