Will modern N frame cylinder fit a pre-1945 S&W large frame revolver? I have a butchered 2nd model hand ejector that I would like to turn into a shooter again. Just thinking out loud.

Thanks Dan. I couldn't see any obvious differneces between the two but I thought I would ask just in case. Fitting and timing won't be a problem, getting the time to sit down and do it might be. Now, .44 special or ,45 ACP.....

It started life as a .455 but somewhere along the line it was rechambered to 45 Colt. One chamber is bulged. The barrel is not in great shape but the "someone" in the past ground off the .455 barrel marking with a bench grinder leaving a big flat spot on the barrel. Looks like he had an 80 grit wheel. I got it as a collection of parts in a box. Surpisingly, the screw are not badly buggered.

Anvil, Gun Parts Inc used to have barrels and cylinders for the 455 S&W, may be worth a phone call. I have a 28 that's mismatched that I'm thinking of reaming the cylinders and boring the barrel to make a 5" 44 Special (just can't have enough 44s you know). - dan

Got a phone number....
I'm looking for grips for my 1917 S&W and maybe a spare cylinder in 455 or 45 colt...

You can try phoning, they get small amounts of parts every now and then that they don't catalogue or put on the net. Also try the S&W collectors forum, they have an exchange forum there that sees a lot of oddball bits and pieces. You can google "gunparts" and just start calling all the ones that come up, I found a bunch of Star parts that way a while back. And finally, there's always ebay. - dan
