Designed for Navy and Law Enforcement
S&W manufactured the 37MM gas gun, from modified N frames weapons with N frame grips . It was a single shot launcher and could be fired either double or single action to launch flares or charges of colored smoke, tear gasses and other chemical clouds to cause the crowds to cease their disorderly deeds.
Rumour has it they were used at Waco.
They had a cousin that was designed as a line launcher for the Navy
Near as I can find they were manufactured in the late 60's through the 70's
