I saw a S&W K-38 in the gun show today. Is it any good ? What is the difference between it and model 19 ? I know it only shoots .38 and not .357 Magnum. How much is a reasonable price ? Thanks.

Same frame size (K) as the 19, usually a slightly smaller diameter barrel (tho' not always), other then that it's pretty much the same gun. I can't remember if this was an adjustable sight version or not, but with adjustable sights and good condition, it would be worth $300-$350 or so (at least to me). Slightly less for fixed sights. - dan

I have a K-38 masterpiece. It's a fantastic pistol, very accurate and a pleasure to shoot. I think price would really depend on the condition of the gun - bluing, bore etc... I guess I'd pay $400-$500 for one but I'm no expert!

I have a few S&W revolvers already. They are 686-3, 27-2 and 17. The older 27-2 and 17 are smoother and shooting better than my newer 686. This is why I am looking for an older K or N frame revolver. M19 and M66 come in very often but not a K-38. This is why I want to buy this K-38. Anybody can give me more suggestions ? Thanks.

The K38 is a target grade S&W revolver. It was made in 4" and 6" with the 6" being more common. If you fancy 38 Specials the K38 is among the best. I am guessing but I am sure a primo K38 would fetch in excess of $400 (US). Regards, Richard :D

Thanks guys. There is a M19 come up on the site. It looks like a good one. I have to make up my mind now.
