Never really been happy with the stock grips on my 627 V-Comp. Like most revolvers, I found the grip too small in both length and diameter. Further, the exposed metal frame on the backstrap transmitted the recoil directly into your thumb web...without the benefit of any padding.

Picked up the S&W "Model 500 Impact Absorbing Hogue Square Butt Conversion" grip.

Seems to address all my issues as its longer, thicker and wraps the rubber 'padding'over the metal frame on the backstrap. Haven't had it to the range yet, but feels far better in my hand.

Again, original on right. Note the backstrap is cut out to expose the frame.

New grips on the gun....originals beside.

The new grip also seems to encourage a higher grip, which was always a little uncomfortable with the original. Can't wait to try it; but it looks like a great improvement!

Good choice. I put a set of the new Hogue's on my S&W 629 Classic Hunter (.44Mag) and the difference was night and day. The additional backstrap padding means I can put 50-100 rounds down range without the usual pinch between thumb and forefinger.

The Hogue rubber gives you the usual stick-in-your-hand feel so there is no movement once you have established your grip. Enjoy.
