I picked up a S&W M&P 15-22 for some plinking fun about a month ago, and I've been having trouble with FTE when I’ve been out with it. I figured it was either dirty or still being broken in. I’ve fired around 300 rounds through it and this is my second time cleaning it to see if I can figure out what's wrong. It pretty consistently stove pipes every 5-6 rounds. Last night I tore it down to clean it and it looks like the guide rod is bent. I've reached out to Murray Charlton Enterprises for warranty info and to see if I can get a replacement guide rod through them.

Knowing how little I paid for the gun and how much it would cost to ship it anywhere, does anyone have any quick fix for this? A quick fix would also allow me to keep using it while waiting for parts w/o tearing out what little hair I have left. I thought about trying to bend it back with a vice, but I don't want to scratch anything preventing it from sliding properly.

To perhaps state the obvious, have you tried different brands and grades of ammo in it? Some stuff is so subpar that I use it for practice on clearing feeding jams, double feeds, failures to fire and FTEs and it provides all four. Any semi can be very picky about such things, some more than others of course; a better brand of .22 ammo in my guns and they all work perfectly. Well mostly.

...Doesn't it not slide properly now?

If you're not into it for much, I'd just try to bend it straight. Wrap it in a rag or something.
