I have a S&W M&P 9 mm which I like and I have read that the 9 mm is built on the 40 S&W frame. I don't see S&W making any exchange kits for their guns but I have heard that some people have done it themselves by purchasing the parts needed to convert their gun to the other caliber, so what I would like to know is where did you get the parts needed and how much did it cost to do it.

You can convert it if you can find a complete M&P 40 slide assembly. But, you cannot convert a 9 to .40 by just putting in a .40 barrel or conversion barrel. The breech face cut into the slide of a 9mm is smaller than that of the 40 cal. Conversions can only go down in caliber not up. S&W does not sell complete slides as a kit.

Thanks for the replies guys, I should have put in a bit more detail on my first post.
I know that to go from 9 mm to 40 S&W I would need the complete slide assembly and the magazines, and that it would have been easier to go from the 40 to the 9, but I started out with the 9 not thinking about the 40 at that time.
It sure would be easier if S&W did like Sig did with there exchange kits but at this point they don't, maybe they will at some point.
I was hoping to hear from someone that had done this and what the cost would be, if it is too much then I will forget it but I like the idea of using the lower I have now so I can use the Apex trigger with both calibers.
