S&W M&P mag retention issues

I've run about 1500 rounds through my M&P40, and now it will not keep a mag in the damn thing. I read that in the US there have been similar issues repaired by a new hardening process on the mag retention pin.

Any experiences hereabouts? I have never sent a firearm to the US for repairs; is this a challenge?

Call Wortners in Ontario, they're the S&W service depot. Explain the problem, ask if they'll send you a replacement mag catch, instead of having to send them the gun. I can't see why they wouldn't. If they won't call MDCharlton and ask the same thing.
