Hey guys,

I have a quick question. I need help adjusting my sights on my M&P 9. It shoots bottom left. I can adjust the rear sight left/right but when it comes to height it seems there is nothing I could do. I searched the forums here but the search engine sucks. I also looked it up on youtube and didn't see anything. If you guys saw other forums talking about this, forward me the site or just let me know what you guys did to adjust the height.

Thank you.

you can't adjust the height without swapping the front sight with a shorter one or filing the front sight down.

whats your sight picture? A,B,or C? My M&P 9 shoots type C (115gr @ 20yd)...this may explain why you are shooting low if you are expecting to shoot type A or B.

That's one thing I did not do, which I know I should have done. I have been shooting for 6 years but I'm not using that as an argument. For sure when I go again I'll shoot it off the bench to make sure. But there's honestly no other way of changing the height? You would think with today's engineers they would be capable to design a practical sight setup. Clearly NOT! SMH

not with the fixed dovetail sights you have currently on the m&p. all else fails you can also swap out your factory sight for an adjustable rear sight

Changing the sights or their alignment isn't going to do you much good if you are the problem, which I suspect is the case. As your shooting improves with the gun you are going to have to change sights again and again and...well you get the picture. Mu guess is you have your trigger finger resting on the side of the frame as as you pull the trigger you ar forcing the gun to the left and pushing down as the shot breaks. A session with a pistol rest should prove interesting.

Take Care

This - it's very common with "safe action" triggers.

I had the same problem with my m&p. shot low and left. I started messing with my grip and when I increased the grip of my left hand, shot dead on after that.

Those are all interesting suggestions. I may go again tonight and I'll give it a try rested and see what happens. I hope it's me and not the gun since I really like it overall. (Had one, sold it, and then bought another one). I'll see what happens and I'll get back to you.
Thank you guys.

So I went to the range and shot off the bench. The groupings were again very good shot slightly below and quite a bit to the left. There was a significant improvement on the height although the windage needs adjustment but I can easily take care of that. Thanks again guys.

Hi Andrei,

Sorry to hear that you're having problems with the M&P. I also found that I initially shot low/left with it and experienced the same issues with my Walther. No problems with my SIG (which has a larger grip) which led me to try swapping out the grip panel to the medium and eventually the large. At first I used the small grip because it felt the most comfortable when activating the mag release, but it turns out I had poor finger placement on the trigger. Switching grips resolved the low/left issue for me.

Hope things work out for you.

Shoot safe.

This! Exact same issue for me... all good now!

Same thing for me. Probably the best advice is above.

glad i read this thread, i was having the same lower left issue, i have the medium backstrap on, i will switch to the large and try that

A good way to tell whether the grip is fitted for you is to put your finger on the trigger where you would normally fire and then work back to wrapping your hand around the grip. If the barrel is in line with your forearm you are fitted correct if it is pointing left or right you need larger or smaller grips. Low and left is a pretty common problem for someone firing a gun that is new to them with a different trigger pull than they are used to. It is commonly and indication that you are "mashing" the trigger instead of squeezing the trigger. It also happens when a person pops his finger off of the trigger after each shot. I would start with squeezing the trigger and holding it in for a 2 second pause and then releasing it just until you hear it reset and continue firing like that to see if your grouping comes up a bit. Don't eye sprint to the target after each shot but fire five shots before you put the target in focus to see where your rounds went and keep your finger on the trigger until you are done firing. See if that helps.

Seem to have had the same issue. I used the large backstrap because my trigger finger was a little long around the trigger.

I went back to medium, and have also noticed a difference.
