S&W M&P9 teething issues

Apex Comp or tactical kit is the ONLY way to go with the M&P. the improvement is HUGE and in my opinion, S&W should seriously think about delivering their product with them already installed. Stock trigger is the only beef I had with mine, and with the AEK competition the trigger is so close to a 1911 it's crazy.

I read on here at some point that Apex Tactical didn't have their export licence yet:(, I was just wondering if anyone stocked these up here? I'd love to keep my money in Canada...

I'm thinking about installing the Apex kit in my Pro Series also. How hard is it to install the striker block? Would you consider installing the Apex RAM?

First the RAM gets mixed reviews on the M&P Forum. I decided not to install one in either of my guns.

The kits comes with a tool that really helps with the changing of the striker block. Just be careful and use the tool that comes with the kit to capture the striker block spring and spring cap.

Watch the youtube video APEX has posted and you won't have any problems doing the installation. Hell if I can do it anyone can. The trigger spring is a piece of cake.

Apex is a licensed manufacturer for export purposes, their products are sold by Brownells and Dillon Precision, both ship to Canada. There's no money for a dealer buying at or near retail, only to sell at retail.

I just took my new m&p9 to the range yesterday. Had a few issues, when seating a full mag sometimes the slide would let go and seat the round sometimes it wouldn't. It shot consistently left and the slide failed to lock back 5 or 6 times in 150 rounds. Is this normal?

Slide releasing when inserting a fresh mag - ya... that happens when you "slap" the mag home. Really common.

Consistently left - probably your unfamiliarity with the trigger on the gun. You can try relaxing your grip, and using a bit more trigger finger. Or dry fire practice to learn the break point of the trigger.

Slide not locking back - not common at all on the M&P from what I've experienced. Again, it might be your grip. You could be limp wristing against the recoil. Or it could be your ammo. Change that and see.

Well I'm 220 pounds and know how to grip a hangdun, so it aint a limp wrist. I was shooting winchester white box 115 gr, so could have been the ammo that caused the slide lock failures, I guess. Just makes me wonder cause everyone and their dog says these guns arent picky and will funcion with everything. I won't lie, I'm actually quite disapointed with my first impressions. It also has the stiff 10th round issue with the mags and the impossibly stiff slide stop lever. With no mag inserted It is requires extreme effort to release the slide using the lever.

This is my first 9mm and first polymer pistol but I have experience with 1911's. I have quickly realized this is a dfferent beast.

If you are shooting left consistently you either have sights out of alignment which I doubt or your trigger finger is pushing on the frame as you pull the trigger. Try bench resting the pistol and you should be able to determine whether it is the sights or you.

If you have big meaty hands your weak/strong hand thumb maybe rubbing the slide causing the slide not to fully come back. This will result in the slide not locking back. If you are a 1911 shooter you likely are used to resting your strong hand on the manual safety.

Canuck44 has a good point with the slide lock and thumbs. I haven't had that issue personally, but I find the thumbs up/forward grip uncomfortable and I use the thumbs down grip.

I have used WWB 115gr ammo in my M&P, and the only thing I found was that my group size doubled. Immediately went to a box of 124gr Federal and it tightened right up again.

The M&Ps twist rate favours the 124 & 125 gr bullet over the 115s. I benched some Win Ranger 147s last year and could not keep them within a five inch circle at 15 yards from a gun that will shoot one inch groups consistently at that range with other ammo.
