I have shot this revolver a lot. Last session I discovered that the cylinder does not lock up tightly. I can easily push it open from the right side, without using the release.

Is this a mechanical issue - if so, what part?

Or a cleaning issue?

I'll bet that the crane or spindle is bent. Hopefully not by you because you slam it home? The fix is to gently but firmly bend it back into place using some tools to identify the trouble and fix only what isn't straight.

I had this on my Model 28. The crane and tube spindle on the crane was fine but the ejector shaft was bent. THis caused the cylinder to be out of place. I fixed it by using my drill press as a press and using V blocks and a machinist's dial guage to check for straightness. I quite when I couldn't find anything worse than .002 runout.

Before you start working on the crane, check to see that the locking latch is moving correctly gander, and that the ejection rod hasn't unscrewed itself enough to inhibit the cylinder closing all the way.

Open up the clinder and pull push the cylinder latch ahead and see if it it springs all the way back when you release it. Look inside the recoil shield and see if it will move once released if you pull it back, if so, it needs a good cleaning or a new spring.

If you've been doing hollywood reloads (flicking the cylinder open and closed) you may have bent the crane, and you'll need to get it straightened. Find a smith unless your good with your hands and have a delicate touch. Nylon wedges and a rawhide hammer will work if your carefull and go a very little bit at a time and check often, but be careful, and figure out which way you need to move it before you start. If it's not obvious, take it to a smith.

Cocked&Locked - you are the man!

I cleaned and lubed the release catch and now it locks up nice and tight.

When I got my first revelver, it came with a stern lecture about not slamming the cylinder open or closed. I am gentle, so I was pretty sure alignment was not the problem.

Thanks for the help.
