my new nickel mod 24 seems to be accurate. first group ran a fairly tight vertical string, pretty much straight up and down. the second group, when i shot isosceles was franky amazing, all shots minus one flyer which i jerked flew into 1.103" . double action shooting was dissapointing to say the least, guess i need practice. shots at fifteen yards seemed to shoot low and quite far to the right.

any suggestions, would different grips help?

i assume the revolver is accurate due to the single action performance, which was very very good, especially considering i was shooting offhand.

Hi fello 44 Spl shooter !!

What are the grips on your gun ?? If they're too small for your hand the position could shift resulting in bad shooting results...I use S&W Target stocks of all my 44s. The older ``coke bottle`` are best for me followed by 29-2 series or older...

What kind of ammo do you use ?? 44 Spl gets it's full potential with handloads !! Not the whimpy factory stuff made for older ``fragile`` guns...

With good grips & ammo you should do a lot better....My 4 in. M624 easily does 3 inches at 100 yds (rested) with a load similar to what Keith used back then...

Let us know how shooting goes with that one...

wow i guess they really are awesome. i could not believe i shot an offhand group at just over an inch at 15 yards. grips are whatever comes on the classics these days. gun feels somewhat large, but not too bad. im told most people offshoot to the left, mine are low and right. i guess its practice practice practice. too bad kanada has discouraged a lot of this kinda stuff as theres no one at the range to lend a hand, esp this time of year

If you're right handed and your shots are going right and low, it usually is a trigger control issue, common in DA work. You can try different grips/stocks, but I find more practice and a trigger job solves more issues for me then what kind of stocks are on the gun, at least in a light recoiling revolver like a 44 Special. - dan

Any chance of seeing a picture of your nickel S&W Model 24? Is this an older gun or one of recent manufacture? My sources tell me that only 25 nickel Model 24-3s were made in the serial number range ABZ###x.If yours is one of those it is indeed a very rare gun.
