I`m not sure on the nomenclature so take it easy on me if I refer to things as doohickeys and widgets :D

As the title suggests, I`m getting light strikes on a pretty consistent basis, sometimes 1 round out of six, sometimes four. It tends to happen mostly in double action, rarely in single action.

The primers are getting hit, just not enough to set them off, I`ve tried with a batch loaded with federal primers as I hear they`re softer but it didn`t help.

Now when I drop the hammer and look at the gap from the cylinder to the firing pin, or nose, whatever its called, it looks to me like the firing pin isn`t long enough (I`ll post pics tonight) but that might just be wishful thinking from someone who doesn`t want to have to change out the springs on the sweet trigger job

I was thinking of putting a drop or two of JB weld on the time of the firing pin to make it a little longer and I was wondering if that a sure recipie for disaster and if I should just get a new firing pin thingy or a new mainspring.

Having you checked the recoil strain screw (front of the grip frame at the bottom)? The lighter strikes be the result of it backing out.

Claybuster has hit the usual cause of light strikes.

With an empty gun, pull the trigger to the rear and hold it there. Press forward on the hammer and see how much of the firing pin sticks forward.

I`ll check it out and post pics tonight, unfortunately I can`t test anything because I`m still waiting for my ATT, stupid quebec..........

It could be dry inside as well, I have a Model 15 that was striking light so I poped off the side plate and gave it a blast of thin gun oil, works great now. You can also lube it through the various openings in the frame with spray oil if you don't want to take the side plate off. Some of the Smith firing pins are an inertia type so they wont protrude unless the hammer drops allowing them to go forward out the hole to the primer.
