awhile back my mod 24 gave a six shot 1.1" group offhand with rem factory ammo (15 yd). today, 7.5 gr unique and a 200 gr xtp went into one small hole for three shots (all i had) at 20 yrds offhand. i didn't measure the group, but it was hardly over caliber, you could just see where another bullet went.

single action for both groups.

im curious, is this common accuracy or did i just get a real peach?

Lets look at what we're talking about - a revolver that was made at the peak of the double action revolver's use and development. Made by the pre-eminent revolver maker. In a calibre that had been around for a long time. Sounds like a recipe for success to me.

m1978,

Good accuracy is to be obtained from S&W 44 Spl's...My 4 inch 624 does less than 3 inches at 100yds, rested on sandbags. Pet long range load is 17.0 grs 2400 behind a Keith 245grs cast....(yes I'm a big fan of Keith ! )

But by all means DO NOT try this loading in your gun !! I had to work my way up there VERY carefully...
