Looking at buying a smith and wesson rifle model 1500 in a .270 caliber. Does anyone know much about these. What kind of price should I be looking at? It is in great shape.
Thanks

According to some books and internet, this rifle was made by Howa, Japan (very few in USA) and it could be the same as Weatherby Vanguard and older Mossberg 1500. As for the price, take my words with grain of salt, but from I could see price of new Howa is $600-650, similar to Remington and Weatherby Vanguard, and I had seen prices for later new one on sale for $539 in 22-250 (check under Equipment Exchange, Hunting and Sporting Arms, look for DelSelins). As for rifle itself, I found many claims of high quality and accuracy level of later models. Considering today's trend in industry, I would surprised if older guns aren't at least same quality as a later ones. Hope, this helps.

I have a few of them and I bought them fairly cheap $350 with a decent scope, case, sling, ammo case. Everything to hit the field. They are the same as the weatherby vangaurds so base your price on the accessories that come with it. A new vangaurd is around $500.

$300-$400 would be fair. It is the same action/barrel as a Howa and Weatherby Vanguard, which can be had for $500 new...
