My dad has a chance to get the above models and he says they are in near mint condition - the are prohib of course. I do not know what model they are if they are first, second etc. generations. I was just wondering what a good price for these would be. I said that a safe price would be 700 for both as I do not know what the interest is in a model 59.

Sorry I do not have more info. but let me know what you think - am I in the right ball park.

How would this differ if they were not prohibited? I would think a mint Highway patrolman would be fairly desirable. I have one and it shoots wonderfully.

Non-prohib would add probably $150-$200 to the price. 12.6 revolvers are not much in demand--have a look at the EE where you'll see how low they are. I've picked up a 28-2 for $300 and a Chief's Special for $175.

Being prohib limits the market, you can only sell to old guys (like me) with prohib status on their PAL cards. So average prohibs go for less then they would be worth otherwise. Not fair, but it's what you get for voting in Liberals. Some exceptional prohibs will go for more, but again, once the market is saturated, the value drops. Sometimes folks think they're worth a lot more then they are (the US Blue Book contributes to this a lot), which is why you see certain ones in the EE for months on end. I hope the conservatives change all this before I die, but I have my doubts. - dan
