I've been offered to buy one of these but have zero knowledge about them. It's in great condition and has rarely been fired. What they're worth, reliability, how they shoot, etc. Is it worth purchasing? Am I just wasting my time and money in buying it? There' s a Smith Model 41 also for sale in the same condition. Is that a better buy? Please help. Thanks!

a 659 in very good to exc shall go around $500 to $550., but in the state of the prohib market, you can expect $300 to $350. , if not lower. Depending of the condition of the Mdl 41, I will get this one, this is one excellent .22, dependable , really accurate.

The 659 isn't worth more than $350-400, even for a restricted one. Any more than that and for a $150 more you can get a brand new Glock, M&P, etc, that are all far superior to the 659.

I've got two 2nd Gen and one 3rd Gen Smith automatics, and they're just not that good compared to modern guns. They haven't got shot at all since I bought my G17.

C$100.00 to C$300.00 max

You'd think that re-barreling a 39/59 series or the 659/5906 series or even the 4006 series S&W would increase their value.
And given the fact that most of the above noted guns have front barrel bushings as opposed to more modern guns, the simple fact is that the value isn't there.
There was a guy selling a 5946 on the EE for $1200.00 Optomistic to be sure. Re-barreling a prohib S&W is just not worth the expense. Especially when you can buy a new gun for C$599.00.
The gov't created the prohib market and destroyed the value of those so designated guns.
