Does anyone have one of these? Held one the other day at the gunshop and fell in love, Quite a difference from a 686, I was wondering with the smaller cylinder will the older style safariland K2 speed loaders work with it? I know they dont work with the 686

Yes, all the K labelled Safariland speedloaders work with the 66. I use them with my M13.
The L frame is a heavier gun built to withstand a diet of .357 loads. The K frames are lighter and best suited for .38 and +p. The grips, IIRC, are interchangeable.

I picked up one of these recently and it appears that S&W has changed the design to better handle heavy .357 loads. The end of the barrel at the forcing cone is the same thickness all round, instead of having the flat on the bottom, where the old ones were prone to cracking. The extractor rod has been made smaller in diameter to accommodate this change and the yoke incorporates a ball detent that replaces the locking bolt.

The cylinder is the same diameter as historic K Frames and should be able to use regular speedloaders.

And another K frame believer is born.... :d

Something about this size of gun struck me as well. I now have 5 K frame handguns and could not be happier. They just fit and handle so nicely.

Thanks for the input guys, it's a tough revolver to source, found 3 so far, one at the shooting center which seemed a tad steep, and another at a non supporting dealer for about 100$ less than the shooting center and one used on the EE which also seemed a little steep,

Can I give yours a whirl Lawrance? I'll bring the ammo ;P

This wouldn't be my first, I've had this old boy for a few years now, quite enjoy it but I need something with a little more oommmph

S&W K frames

I've always liked the K frames.

Currently have a Model 19 4" .357 and a Model 18 4" .22 lr.

Recently sold a Model 19 2 1/2" snub & Model 13 4" on the EE. They were nice but don't really miss 'em.

The trigger on mine isn't much different from my older S&Ws. The old ones are a bit smoother because they have worn in from being used.

There's a nice 66-1 in the EE right now

It's also a 6" barrel. I'm sure I'm not the only one without 12(6) status who finds the shorter barrels more appealing. A 4" (or 4.25" in this case) half-lug barrel on a K Frame is "just right" in the same way as the same contour 5" barrel on an N Frame.

I would probably just buy an old 4" Model 19 or 66 if I could do so, but, I can't, so this new 4.25" 66-8 is close enough.

I always default to longer barrels, on an aesthetic basis, but since getting a GP101 4.2" I totally see the appeal. They balance nicely.

I used to have an ex police model 10, but it was so long ago when I last shot it - it wasn't in my name and I missed out on being grandfathered - that I forgot what they were like.

I still like the 6 inch half lug (or no lug, like the old model 14), for looks, though.
