S&W Model 69 .44 Magnum. Hickok45 Review.

He brings to light some interesting points. Both him and the camera man dislike the hard rubber grips. That reminds me so much of the Colt Anaconda. It also comes with hard (and thin) factory rubber grips that really does not translate to shooter comfort with every discharge of magnum loads. There is an easy fix to that right?
But, one could confidently carry this piece with a degree of mental comfort, knowing that you have five 44 calibre friends on standby, just in case.

The only thing I don't like is the bead blasted finish because it will get scuffed and scratched very easily, but asides from that I definitely want one.

Pretty cool but don't think I'll swing for one at least while I have the 4.2 629. I find the 629 enough of a handful with American Eagle so can't imagine how the 69 must handle.

I thought the new grips were supposed to provide more cushioning than the hogues. I have hogues on mine and while they feel excellent in the hand, the steel blackstrap it still exposed so that is a lot of recoil over a small area. the soft rubber around the blackstrap provides essentially no cushioning IMO. I don't find the hogues 'that' bad but I was thinking even a harder grip over a larger area has got to be more comfortable.

I they ever come to canada in a 4.25 inch i will buy one forsure

I am not sure I like those new grips either...and a few of the other 'nit-pickey' things Hickock pointed out. I've never owned a S&W but always wanted to. Every time I was in the market for a six gun the Rugers were there at prices I couldn't resist and had a good smith who could clean up the triggers and slick up the actions a bit back then too. I don't know if the Rugers clean up as nicely as the Smiths do; a hundred years ago a kindly soul at the range once let me shoot his .41 Magnum - and I was smitten with that sweetheart. It was probably the nicest revolver I ever shot.

There is still a S&W on my Bucket List but I don't think it will be this one.

The model 69 is definitely on my list. I used to own a 4" mod 29 so full magnum loads would be brutal in the 69 for sure.

What realy attracts me to the 69 is the big bore in an L frame with a 4.25" barrel. I would swap the grips for wood ones and reload some mild .44spl loads.

Smaller frame would not be my choice, I prefer strong guns that can take the full power loads of the cartridge chambered for so I can shoot them as much as I want to or can afford.

For a smaller CCW version of a big bang-bang I think that gun would be acceptable, but I like to SHOOT my guns.

I would feel fine carrying a full power .357 instead in a revolver that will maintain it's integrity over time.
