S&W quality control and customer service?

I just got off the phone with a dealer who was telling me the quality control coming out of S&W lately has been terrible. The customer service to back up the quality problems was brutal as well.

Does anyone have actual experience with current S&W products or service, positive or negative?

I was leaning toward a S&W .22 revolver over a Taurus, due to perceived customer service problems with Canadian Taurus owners, but this dealer has me thinking twice about S&W.

Help me out here......

I've purchased 3 new S&W revolvers in the past two years, 2 of them within the last year (686 7 shot and 617). My latest purchase, a 617, is reliable and accurate but there is some 'bubbling' or a rough edge in front of the crane where the metal didn't fill the mould fully. My 625 has tooling marks and some fine scratches along the barrel. I know my complaints are mostly cosmetic, fit and finish related. The revolvers have been accurate and reliable. The newer Smiths are nothing like their older siblings in terms of fit and finish but they are just as accurate or reliable in my experience. YMMV.

Their customer service rep on the phone is good - I just sent my M&P for warranty and they "Promised" to pick up the shipping tab - now let's see how many years it will take for me to see the cheque LOL.

From what I have deal with S&W through email, they are outstanding group of people. and their product are so good that I never feel bad to put my green on their table.

I am a fan of the old style S&W revolvers. The new ones make me want to gag. An acquaintance has a new model 610 and he has broken the firing pin on it already. I have had numerous older S&W and have never broken a part on any of them.

All four of my revolvers purchased in the last year were fine....well come to think of it the front sight on one of them was totally wrong but it was replaced locally through Reliable Gun and didn't have to go to S&W. My 629, 686, 460 and 500 are all sweet. Sold a couple of them but kept the X frames. No worries.

A Family member of mine has been waiting well over 2 years for a rear sight for his Taurus. He's still waiting and cant get an answer as to when he will have it.
Some how, I do not think you will wait that long for anything from S&W.

I believe the gun shop employee was warning me about a massive recall/replacement of high end competition S&W pistols.....not sure the model #.

Apparently the wait times, and customer service with this problem was poorly handled by S&W, in his opinion.

I am looking for a revolver, not a competition pistol, but he felt the newer S&W's of all types were lacking a little quality lately.
