This is getting bad. I'm wanting to buy a gun and I don't even know if it exists . Was the S&W Military and Police model ever manufactured with a five inch barrel in .38 special?

Sure, tons of 5" Model 10 were made. I live south of Detroit but the 5" was a common barrel length for issue to police officers in Detroit. I am sure some must have crossed the border after the Detroit Police Department went to Glocks. Regards, Richard :D

If I remember right the RCMP used 5" Model 10's before the switch to the current S&W pistol (5946's?). Good call on the 5" by the way--it's my favourite barrel length for both revolvers and semi-autos (although I don't own any 5" revolvers yet :( ). I find it the best compromise of sight radius, balance, and pointability (and looks too :) !)

Thanks guys. I guess I should have been more clear - I am wondering about pre-model 10 military and police revolvers, or alternatively victory model revolvers. I'm thinking probably made between the 20's to mid 50's. And - yeah I think 5" is a nice compromise between overall size and accuracy in a combat sidearm.

Thanks Energyboss. Only ones I've seen have been in .38s&w. I guess now the trick is finding one.
