In collaboration with Lipsey's, we are proud to announce the new Model 629 and Model 686-Plus Mountain Gun revolvers.

Like Mountain Guns of past, these new additions feature a lightweight tapered barrel, smooth combat trigger, Patridge front sight, and a round-butt frame - the perfect lightweight sidearm for hunters, fishers, and outdoorsmen. Additionally, these two feature no internal lock

The Smith & Wesson Model 36 Classic is turning heads at SHOT Show 2025 with its no-internal-lock design! This iconic snub-nose revolver in .38 Special maintains its timeless J-Frame appeal while catering to revolver purists. Join us as we break down its features, specs, and what makes this revolver a standout

Looks like S&W is manufacturing Mod 10M&P revolvers again, but without the internal lock.

I guess there's still a market for them, or they got a government contract and these are over runs?

It wasn't that long ago you couldn't get $100 for them in EXC condition.

The last time I went to the US, just before Covid, I visited a store in Florida with about 200 of them, all on cables, ten to a cable.

They weren't where they could be picked up and handled, and one end of the cable was attached to the wall, with a lock on the other end.

They all ranged from VG to EXC, a few of them were ex RCMP, from the deal made in supplying the new DA only pistols. They were $US50/ea or a dozen for $US500.

I guess the supply has dried up?

I know when I go to the range to shoot my revolvers there are always "curious" folks wanting to look at them and a few even ask to shoot them.

This started about ten years ago and it surprised me. No more. Most of the people asking to shoot them are under the age of 35 and have never held one or shot one because they were enamored by their semi autos.

Perfectly understandable.

The DA triggers on my revolvers have all been tuned, if they needed it. The old Colts and S&Ws came from the factory with oiled glass smooth triggers and the folks trying them for the first time are always surprised at the ease of staying on target in DA mode.

One of the S&W 38spl, Mod 10's has a three inch barrel. I bought it that way, it also has an aftermarket front sight but the rear is still just the original "notch" It's very accurate at 7/10 and 25yds with 158 grain round nose, lead ammo.

I wonder if these new offerings, first displayed at the Shot Show, are as smooth as the originals.

I never did understand why the competitive shooters didn't like the "internal" lock.

Here in Southern Ohio, they can't keep quality used lock-less S&W revolvers on the shelves. No one wants the new lock versions, but those get snapped up quickly if in decent condition. I picked up my Model 36 not long ago that is in good condition (some makes on the bluing and minor damage to the grip). At $450 I was lucky to find it because these typically go for close to double that amount. That 629 Mountain gun may end up in my safe...

Still lots of people around here buying snubby revolvers. Ruger and Taurus are probably more popular than S&W new. My own EDC is a Ruger LCR 357 Mag with a HiVis front sight.

OK, so how do you manage to purchase, since the C21 event?

Most people who buy the models with the lock won't use it because it's a small hole to try and get a key into in a hurry.

People don't want to buy revolvers that have them sometimes because of aesthetics, but mostly because of what it represents: caving to the gun grabbers. Buying them is kind of like buying a Bud Light these days.
