New problem discovered post #8

I installed the APEX trigger kit in my SD9VE. I thought I had installed it correctly but allegedly not. I installed, tried testing the trigger a few times withe the slide off (didn't feel much different). But it all seemed alright. So i put the slide on, racked it, pulled the trigger and nothing happened. The trigger pull was consistent all the way through but it didn't drop the striker.

So I think to myself, "No problem, just take it apart and re-install." The only issue with that is you can't disassemble the pistol with the striker cocked.

So my question is this. How to i take this pistol apart if I can't pull the trigger to release the striker? And just to complicate things a little more I tried pushing out the roll pin at the back and the pin in the trigger group in an attempt to pull it apart. But that didn't work either. But now the trigger doesn't function normally as it should.

If anyone can shed some light on how I might take this apart that would be awesome.

One of the reasons why I didn't install my Apex Trigger Kit when I had my SD9, as I was nervous I'd f@ck it up. I really have no clue what to do to fix your situation, hopefully you didn't do any permanent damage.

Maybe this will help you:

U can take apart the gun with the striker cocked. Just lock the slide back and disassemble as if the slide was off. Meaning push the liner back and drop the back cover.

On mine I never install the apex kit as I found that the glock trigger spring was a better improvement.

Remove the slide striker retaining cover and dump the striker.

Been there, done that. Made the same mistake with my M&P when I was installing an Apex upgrade (either tripped the sear or set the sear before assy, can't remember which now). Was quite panicked for a bit, and then the light bulb flickered.

Don't mean to derail your thread but seeing as everything appears ok again do you mind if I ask as to where you got the Apex trigger kit from. Thanks.

No worries ff33. I got mine from Cowboy Tactical a site sponsor.

I paid $69.99 for it.

I've installed it again after managing to disassemble the pistol again. The only problem now is that it doesn't work.

I've installed it twice now just as shown on videos online. I've also swapped it back to stock a couple times.

My conclusion is that with the Apex trigger installed it doesn't (forgive my not knowing proper terminology) move the piece that actuates the striker far enough.

So as you look down in the disassembled pistol you:

Pull the trigger
This moves the trigger bar (long piece on RH side)
Which catches on the vertical metal piece (with 2 holes in the center)
Which I assume moves or releases the striker.

With the Apex trigger installed it doesn't travel far enough to move the components. I assume far enough to release the vertical piece (sear??) To allow the striker to fire.

So all said and done this kit doesn't work on my particular pistol for some reason.

Anyone had issues like this??

U need to trim the back of the trigger otherwise it doesnt go back far enough to disengage. Pm me your email. I had a thread on s&w forum abt this. I will email pictures of what i did

The problem with that kit is because it was for both sigma and sd. With the sigma, no trimming is required. On an SD. U need to trim. Basically u need to trim so that the trigger goes back far enough and the trigger bar goes high enough to be parallel with the right side of the frame

Are younjust trying to lighten the trigger? If so...use a factory glock trigger spring. It puts it down to around 5.5lb

pop out the little pin in the back of the slide and take out the plastic piece from the back of the slide again. then you can disassemble it. I did the same thing.

This is great info.im doing this install this weekend on my on my sd 40,even picked up a Galloway 20 pound recoil spring with stainless guidrod.if I run ino any problems, can I get ahold of any of you fine fellows??

I have been running the glock trigger spring and glock 19 guide rod since day1. Finally received the order from wolffs for the proper application. The s&w guide rod fits into a glock 19 as well

Finally got the Apex trigger in on my SD9VE. Sadly it still shoots poor. Pic to follow tomorrow. Just can't seem to get the spongy feeling out if it.

FYI the trigger on mine required about 10 minutes of filing to get it to fit properly and release the striker when pulled.
