My sigma model f has been having problems with reloads and dosen't like to fire them i am getting misfires 25% of the time with 2 different primers CCI which is understandable from what i hear but also with federal. but if i use factory loads it functions flawlessly has anyone else had this experience with this gun and reloads and what would you suggest i do

ps.help i have black badge in 1 month and need to figure something out , i'll go broke shootin factory loads.

This is pure speculation, but maybe you're not seating your primers deep enough in the primer pocket, and with the hammer strike, the primer only seats deeper instead of deforming and blasting (light primer strike). If Federal wont fire, not much will.

You might have more luck getting a good answer in the Reloading Section of this forum.

If my opinion means anything, I would make 110% sure your ammo works for your BB course and if you are not 110% sure, spring for the 500rds of factory ammo. The last thing you want to do is try to do a BB course with crappy ammo (although you will probably be the best in your class for clearing malfunctions).

And PoFF is right - if you cannot get Federal primers to ignite reliably, there is something VERY wrong with either your primers or your reloaded rounds (like the seating depth). If you want to confirm that this is a problem with your particular reloading setup (primer, dies, brass, etc) and not reloads in general, get a batch of reloads from a buddy and see how they run in your gun...

If your brass has been reloaded many times and the primer pocket become too big, at the same time you don't seat deep enough, then what POFF mentioned is most likely happen.
Hope things work out for your BB course.

I just sold my Sigma (40 S&W) but the load that I had been shooting was 5.0 grains of Winchester 231 under a 180grain FMJ using Winchester primers. The guns shot good groups and functioned flawlessly with the ammo. It NEVER liked lead bullets. Also, I had to be sure that my brass was sized all the way down or the round wouldn't chamber. Hope this helps.

thanks for your help boys

got her figured my firing pin was binding and was not hitting hard enough on all the shots-- got it cleaned up and she works great

I'm quite surprised to hear that, given that the gun was working fine with factory ammunition.

Well, glad you're problem is solved. Good luck with your Black Badge and have fun! One last thing... bring ALOT of ammo! :)
